BBMP Warns of Property Seizure, Auctions to Recover ₹786 Crore in Pending Taxes
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun a crackdown on property tax defaulters, cautioning owners that their movable and immovable assets could be seized and auctioned if dues remain unpaid.
According to BBMP’s Revenue Department, nearly 2.75 lakh property owners across Bengaluru have not cleared their tax obligations, leading to a shortfall of over ₹786.86 crore. To tackle the mounting arrears, notices have been issued directing property holders to pay their dues immediately via the official portal – bbmptax.karnataka.gov.in
Zone-wise Arrears
Mahadevapura Zone: Tops the list with 65,040 properties yet to pay, leaving nearly ₹197.90 crore outstanding.
South Zone: Around 25,162 owners owe a total of ₹116.81 crore.
East Bengaluru & Bommanahalli: Report heavy defaults, adding to the civic body’s financial stress.
Yelahanka & West Zones: Continue to show significant arrears.
Rajarajeshwari Nagar & Dasarahalli: Also contribute large amounts to the unpaid balance.
Enforcement Measures
Special Commissioner (Revenue) Munish Moudgil has instructed officials to speed up recovery and take stringent action against chronic defaulters. The BBMP has made it clear that if property owners ignore notices, seizure and emergency auction proceedings will follow.
With tax arrears severely impacting the city’s revenue flow, the civic body stressed that timely recovery is essential to maintain basic civic services and infrastructure development in Bengaluru.
